When the Oakes damily boarded th S.S. Barriboal in late 1925, a young man was also on board; he was being farewelled by his Aunt and Uncle from Bognar Regis Kent who loved and raised him. It was Edward Jack "Guy" New.
The Oakes family arrived at Mcloed Creek to find Guy New as a neighbour on Group 69. Guy and Rosina has a shipboard romance and were married on the 18th December 1926 at Karridale.

I was born on the 16th January 1928 at Karridale. They walked off the land when Dads small dairy herd was accidentally poisoned, they then went share farming in the Dangin area growing wheat. Young Guy was born at York, some time after Guy was burn we moved to Fremantle and it was there that Evelyn was born in 1932.

Dad was working 3 days on and 4 days off then 4 days on and 3 days off on rotating roster, he was working on the irrigations channels from Collie to Harvey. Then he moved to the Railways, from that time on we lived in tents for the most of my youth and most of my education was by correspondence. By the time we moved to Bruce Rock Dad was a "Length Runner", When WW2 broke out in 1939 we moved to Perth.

Dad was called up for Service and we lived at 17 Brighton St, North Cotesloe. Auntie Ruby also lived in the same street, Mum bought a shop in Welshpool. We had a lot of contact with Aunt Agnes and family as they lived in the Hills behind us, her second husband Tony rrew Grapes and made wine.

I met and married a English Submariner "Peter James" and sailed for English Shores as a war Bride, while I was in Engerland Dad was discharged and returned to the Railways as a "Ganger" when Peter and I returned home my parents and sister lived in Salman Gums, we spent a couple of weeks there until Peter and I moved to and made our home in Norseman.

Dad threw in the railways and worked in the mines at Norsman untill his death on the 12tt July 1955, Rossina remained in Norsman for a few years. She became the caretaker of the Norsman Caravan Park for quiet awhile. Rossina joined Evelyn and Paddy in Salman Gums.

Peter and I moved to Bunbury with our family in 1968, Rossina came and lived with us for a few monthes befor moving to Tallot Lodge. After some time Rossina's health failed and she passed away in Rockingham on the 8th October 1994.
